NYC Architects for Animals

The Fifth Annual Architects for Animals: Giving Shelter, an evening to benefit the NYC Feral Cat Initiative of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, will be held on Thursday January 14, 2016, 6:00–8:00 pm, at the Steelcase Showroom, 4 Columbus Circle, New York, NY 10019.

For the estimated tens of thousands of cats who live in backyards, vacant lots, alleys, and numerous other outdoor locations throughout New York City, wintertime is especially difficult. Many of these cats are cared for by dedicated caretakers who feed them daily, monitor their health, and go to great lengths to have them spayed or neutered through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). TNR has proved to be the only truly humane and effective way to manage feral cat colonies and reduce their numbers over time.

For the past five years, some of New York’s most prestigious architectural designers, through an inventive project called Architects for Animals, have been helping the city’s kitties by creating imaginative winter shelters to provide them with a refuge from the cold. A new collection of unique, inspired Architects for Animals winter shelters will be presented for public viewing before they are donated to Certified TNR Caretakers and placed in locations throughout the city. Among the architectural firms participating in this year’s exhibition are Biber Architects, CallisonRTKL, deSoto studio Architects, Docomomo US, HLW International, Narofsky Architecture, and Spacesmith.

NYC Animals 2016

Admission is a $25 donation ($10 for Certified TNR Caretakers) and includes the exhibit, hors d’oeuvres, and cocktails. You may RSVP in advance online through January 12, and a limited number of tickets also will be available at the door. No paper tickets will be issued; your name will be on the list at the door.

Mid-Ohio Animal Welfare League is a tiny group of volunteers from Columbus to Cleveland Heights. In their 10 years of existence, they have fostered and placed over 400 cats and dogs and brought low-cost spay/neuter services to thousands of animals. They focus on helping the neediest of animals that many rescues would ignore due to health status/age/etc. Many of their current fosters are long-term or sanctuary animals due to chronic or terminal medical conditions. But they also have healthy animals available for adoption and work with a small rescue in rural KY by bringing their fosters up north where they actually have a chance to find forever families.

Concert to Benefit Sweetpea For Animals!

The Unity Center of Central Massachusetts is having a Holiday Concert on Sunday December 20, 2015 to benefit Sweetpea Friends of Rutland Animals. The concert will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at The Ranch & Saloon and will feature many of the Unity Center’s talented musicians.

One of Sweetpea’s bulidings burned down on Sunday November 22, 2015 tragically taking with it the lives of many of their precious animals. UCCM wants to support Sweetpea in its recovery and rebuilding journey.  There will be a table of crafts for sale, another table of baked goods as well as some raffle baskets. The Concert is open to everyone and is being offered on a Donation basis. All proceeds will be given to Sweetpea.

Sweetpea FOR Animals is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue organization. Sweetpea takes in animals who are on “death row” at other shelters, or whose owners can’t keep them but don’t want to surrender them to a kill shelter. They rely on donations, plus any revenue raised from boarding dogs and cats at their kennels, to run the rescue.  Unfortunately, expenses from the November fire have exhausted most of Sweetpea’s operating budget and they will need to raise significant funds to rebuild their facilities.

PetravelR™ hopes that everyone in the Paxton, MA area will support this event!
